Without Plus, a session on free equipment can be extended by 2 hours at most. As a Plus member, that limit is lifted: you can keep extending for as long as you want to keep playing. The station closing time still applies: no session can run past it.

That is the whole benefit, and it applies to free equipment. On paid equipment there is no limit either, with or without Plus, but the extra time is billed.

If you want to switch lockers or change equipment during your session, extending will not do it. You need to end your current session, return the gear you are using, and then book a new session with the equipment you want.
